Batilda the Bat

YOU WILL NEED:

50g purple cotton DK yarn

3mm hook

2 x 6mm eyes

Tapestry needle  

A little scrap grey and white yarn

Stuffing

 

PATTERN NOTES: 

  • Any yarn size could be used, just adjust the hook size accordingly

  • The head and body are made using the amigurumi style, in spirals. Don’t join at the end of a round, and place a marker in the first stitch in the round

  • UK terms are used

EARS

(make 2)

Start at around 5cm

5ch

Row 1: work down the chains- 1dc in 2nd chain from hook, 1htr in next ch, 1tr in next ch (4)

Fasten off, leave around 5cm for sewing in.

 

HEAD AND BODY

Stuff the head and body as you make Batilda

Rnd 1: 6dc into magic ring. (6)

Rnd 2: 2dc into each st. (12)

Rnd 3: [2dc into next st, 1dc] 6 times. (18)

Rnd 4: [2dc into next st, 2dc] 6 times. (24)

Rnds 5-10: 1dc into each st. (24)

Add eyes, sew on a grey mouth and use the white to sew on little teeth

Sew on the ears

Rnd 11: [dc2tog, 2dc] 6 times. (18)

Rnd 12: [dc2tog, 1dc] 6 times. (12)

Rnd 13: [dc2tog] 6 times. (6)

Rnd 14: [2dc into next st] 6 times. (12)

Rnd 15: [2dc into next st, 1dc] 6 times. (18)

Rnds 16–22: 1dc into each st. (18)

Rnd 23: [dc2tog, 1dc] 6 times. (12)

Rnd 24: [dc2tog] 6 times. (6)

Finish stuffing and use the tapestry needle to close hole.

 

BAT WINGS 

(make 2)

Make your slip knot at 7ch

Row 1: 3ch, 5htr in first ch, turn. (6)

Row 2: 2ch, 1htr in same st as chs, 2htr in each st to end, turn. (12)

Row 3: 2ch, [2htr in next st, 1htr] 5 times, 1htr in next st, turn. (18)

Row 4: [2ch, 1dc in 1st ch, sl st into next st in row 4, 3sl st into row 3] 4 times, 2ch, 1dc in 1st ch, sl st into next st in row 3.

Fasten off

Sew the wings onto the back of the body.
